Weekly word lists
Spelling Worksheet Generator: Trace, Write and Check
Turn a spelling list into a printable worksheet: each word to read, trace and write, or a Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check grid, in print or cursive.
Your printable sheet
The worksheet preview appears here as soon as the handwriting fonts load. It updates while you type, and every page prints exactly as shown.
What you type stays in this browser; we do not receive or save it. Cursive letters use Playwrite US Trad, a traditional United States cursive typeface, and print letters use a renamed copy of Andika, both under the SIL Open Font License. Letter shapes taught in a particular school program may differ slightly, so compare with your class model. To print, choose 100% scale or Actual size.
Three sheet layouts
Read, trace, write shows each word, a copy to trace, and a blank space to write it. Read, trace, write twice adds a second writing space on narrower columns. The Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check layout leaves the word in the first column, a space to write it from memory after folding the first column back, a box to tick after checking, and a second try.
- Paste the weekly list straight from a note or an email.
- Leave the vowels blank in the trace column for an extra challenge.
- Switch to cursive for older students.
Long words
Every column keeps the same line size, so the generator picks the largest size at which your longest word still fits, up to the size you chose. Very long words make the lines smaller; split them onto a separate sheet if the rest of the list would look too small.
Common questions
How many words fit on one page?
At the medium size, about seven short words fit on a page. Long words make the lines a little smaller, so a list of longer words can fit more. Lists continue onto more pages, up to 30 words.
Does it check spelling?
No. It prints the words as you type them, so check the list before printing.
