Cursive Worksheets: Free Printable Cursive Practice Sheet Maker
Start from the cursive alphabet or type your own letters, words and sentences. Choose gray or dotted letters to trace, how many blank rows to add, and the line size. The sheet updates as you type and prints on US Letter or A4 paper.
Your printable sheet
The worksheet preview appears here as soon as the handwriting fonts load. It updates while you type, and every page prints exactly as shown.
What you type stays in this browser; we do not receive or save it. Cursive letters use Playwrite US Trad, a traditional United States cursive typeface, and print letters use a renamed copy of Andika, both under the SIL Open Font License. Letter shapes taught in a particular school program may differ slightly, so compare with your class model. To print, choose 100% scale or Actual size.
How to make a cursive worksheet
Pick a starting point from the list or type your own text, one item per line. Each line of text becomes its own practice block: tracing rows first, then blank rows to write on. Change any setting and the preview redraws.
- Use a letter, a pair such as Aa, or a join such as th to fill a whole row with repeats.
- Type a word list or a few sentences for joined writing practice.
- Add a dark model row when the writer should copy rather than trace.
- Press Print or save as PDF, then choose 100% scale in the print dialog.
Gray, dotted or dark letters
Gray letters are the easiest to follow and suit a first pass. Dotted letters give less help, so the writer has to keep the shape in mind. Dark letters make a copying sheet: the writer looks at the model and writes on the next row. Many families move through all three in the same week.
Picking a line size
Line size is the distance from the top line to the baseline. Choose 1 inch or 3/4 inch for new writers, 5/8 inch or 1/2 inch as letters get steadier, and 3/8 inch for adults and older students. The dashed midline shows where short lowercase letters stop, and the space under the baseline is for letters such as g, j, p, q and y.
Cursive alphabet practice sheets
The presets cover the lowercase alphabet, the capitals, letter pairs from Aa to Zz, and common joins such as th, sh, ch and ing. With one tracing row and one blank row per letter, the lowercase alphabet makes a seven-page workbook at the medium size. Print only the pages you need, or set a different size to change the page count.
Cursive writing practice with words and sentences
Joined writing improves faster with real words than with single letters. Type a spelling list, the days of the week, a short poem you wrote yourself, or one of the sentences that contain every letter of the alphabet. Long lines wrap to the next row automatically, and very long words are fitted to the row width.
Print handwriting, names, adults and spelling
The same tool also writes print (manuscript) letters, so one sheet can mix printing and cursive practice on different days. Separate pages below make name tracing sheets, print handwriting worksheets, smaller practice sheets for adults, and spelling lists with tracing and a Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check grid.

A few helpful answers
Before you begin.
Are these cursive worksheets free?
Yes. Make and print as many sheets as you like, with no account and no watermark beyond a small line with the site name at the bottom of the page.
Can I make a cursive worksheet from my own words?
Yes. Type any letters, words or sentences, one per line, or edit a preset. Single letters and short joins repeat across the row, and longer lines wrap.
What is the difference between gray and dotted letters?
Gray letters are solid and light, so they are the easiest to follow. Dotted letters show only a broken outline of each letter, which gives less help once the shapes are familiar.
Which cursive style do the letters use?
Playwrite US Trad, a typeface modeled on traditional United States school cursive. Programs differ in small details, such as the shape of some capitals, so compare with the model your school uses.
How do I print at the right size?
Press Print or save as PDF, then choose your paper size and 100% scale or Actual size. Fit to page shrinks the lines slightly, which matters only if you need an exact line size.
Can I save a worksheet as a PDF?
Yes. In the print dialog, choose Save as PDF as the destination. The PDF keeps the letters sharp at any zoom.
Is anything I type stored?
No. The worksheet is built in your browser. Names and words are not uploaded or saved, so a refresh starts a new sheet.
